It's about 10pm on a Friday night and your phone starts to ring, you're wondering who could be calling so late, you check the Caller ID and it's one of your close friends so you answer the call, she excitedly tells you while almost screaming “HE JUST PROPOSED, WE'RE GETTING MARRIED “, you both start screaming out of excitement as you congratulate her and she gives you the full gist of how it happened and asks “YOU'RE GOING TO BE ONE OF THE BRIDESMAIDS RIGHT ?” , at this point, you're not thinking of anything else so you hurriedly reply “WHY NOT ”, you guys talk for a little while longer, you congratulate her again and the call ends.

Fast forward to 2 weeks later, WhatsApp notification...you've been added to a bridesmaids group chat...LOL!!! Discussions start rolling in and you are all asked to contribute 15k for dresses and accessories, there's still going to be another contribution for a surprise bridal shower, now you're wondering what you got yourself into, HOW DID BRIDESMAIDS EVEN START WEARING MATCHING DRESSES IN THE 1ST PLACE?😄😄😄

It’s an old tradition that comes from a time when bridesmaids not only dressed like each other, but like the bride herself. According to Hanne Blank, author of Virgin, the Untouched History, the purpose of this wasn't to SLAY in pictures or look fly as you dance into the reception hall, but to “confuse evil spirits" or those who wished to harm the bride. Bridesmaids were basically used to camouflage the bride so other suitors or anyone who wanted to do any form of evil to her, wouldn't be able to figure out who the bride actually was...SMART Right 🤔

Today, we say “CHEERS" to women all over the world who literally put their lives on the line, so the bride could have the best day of her life!!! You guys are the real MVPs.

At The EventSmith Ng , we craft indelible experiences.
