What’s a wedding without a cake?

That's the question Doyinsola Cole of Honeycolesdesserts is asking today. Even when there's a cake, you can't just select any cake type for your wedding for various reasons and she shares some of those reasons with us today 💃🏾

In making selection for your wedding cakes the first thing to look out for is your cake design this gives you insight, in terms of budget and flavor. The more structural a cake becomes the more expensive it gets, you’ll want to go with a design that would blend with the theme or decoration of the day e.g. if you’re having a forest or garden theme, you can have a wooden cake effect or flowery cake design.

If you’re a bride working on a budget it's best you tell the cake artist so they can help you with something that fits your budget.

Gone are the days when the only flavors were fruit cake, marble or vanilla cake. You can have a whole lot of flavors now including frostings (covering of the cake). If you want a cake that is durable well fruits cake is the only one that can last for years if properly stored.

To avoid stories that touch the heart a good cake vendor that is located not to far from the venue is what you should consider because the traffic and roads in Nigeria at the moment are terrible for cake transporting.

When it comes to desserts, exposure is very key, are your guest knowledgeable about desserts? If they aren’t I would advice you go for the normal cake with icecream and fruit kebab but if they are, you can have different varies from waffles and icecream, mousse, creme caramel (parents love this particular one) panna cotta, tiramisu and lots more.

I see a whole lot of buttercream wedding cakes and its going to be in trend for a while now. They give this elegant vibe to your wedding especially if you want to follow the vintage trend.

Hmmmmn... it’s a dicey one when it comes to budgeting for a cake. 1stly different bakers have different pricelist. 2ndly if a bride has a dream cake. 3rdly the experience and knowledge the particular cake vendor you contacted has. But for something simple you can start your budgeting from 100,000NGN
